From the West Seattle Blog:

... I have to mention Mike McCann at West Seattle ActiveBody Massage.  I’ve seen Mike off and on for a couple years now, for treatment for debilitating back and neck pain due to herniated disks.  He is an expert not only in deep tissue massage, but in using movement and stretching along with exercise and massage to recover and heal from injuries.  He is as strong as an ox, which is what first drew me to him, but as I experienced over time, he is just incredibly talented in how he uses various techniques.  So your guy won’t just get mashed and manhandled. Mike has done so much to improve my condition -- I went from being in intolerable pain to being able to carry my backpack up to the Enchantments for a week-long hike.  Really, he’s that good.

When "looking for a local therapist for post training/race recovery" on the West Seattle Blog,  Erik's reply was:  "Try Mike McCann at: http://www.wsactivebodymassage.com/

Mike and I both former members of the Washington State Sports Massage Team, where we worked many bike, tri, and running events.

He currently specializes in sports massage at his clinic, across the street from C & P Coffee."

From Yelp

Mike has done a fabulous job helping me with acute and chronic back pain from a recent car accident.  His massage is not like the 60-minute “feel good” massage you would get at a spa. He works both shallow and deep muscles, relaxing entire areas of the body which allows a much greater range of motion and results in less painful movement.  His knowledge of the body and the muscle groups is impressive, and he explains what he is doing and why.  I can’t see myself going back to a standard massage parlor after getting treatment at ActiveBody Massage.  I highly recommend Mike’s services

Mike ROCKS!

I used to go to a fancy spa in Ballard, but the atmosphere ha really gone down hill lately.

Mike is not a fancy spa, but his massage are much more worthwhile and truly therapeutic.  I’m sold.

I have been treated by Mike McCann for chronic back and neck pain.  He is by far the best massage therapist that I have ever worked with.  Mike has a comprehensive understanding of anatomy along with training in many massage techniques.  He tries to get to the sources of pain, not just the spots I say are sore.  Mike has also helped me understand how the interrelationships between posture, muscle-tone, and physical activity affect pain and healing.  What I really appreciate is Mike’s focus on recovery and long-term from chronic pain.  When I see him, I get immediate pain relief, I feel great, and I learn more about how to help myself work through my back pain.  On a scale of 0 to 5, I give Mike a 6.  Really.

Mike is amazing. Great technique. He knows how to do deep tissue without killing you. He knows his muscles well and understands how they all intertwine. He puts a lot of thought into his massages and is very professional. I am a massage therapist myself so I tend to be incredibly picky. I'm happy to find a good one, they're one in a million.

I chose to ignore the clicking in my shoulder and the tightening of my neck muscles for far too long and ended-up with tingling fingers and a true-blue pain in the neck.  Wanting relief, a therapeutic massage is what I searched for and definitely found it in Mike's expert hands.  I could not believe the immediate relief I felt when my shoulders relaxed for the first time in months.  He really "got in there" and knocked out some bad juju that had built-up over the past year.  My range of motion has improved, my posture is better (no longer so round shouldered) and my fingers have stopped tingling.

I've been back to see him for knee problems as well and came away with a set of stretches to relive my tight IT band and hamstrings.

With Mike's help I should remain a functioning weekend warrior for many more years!

Mike was my first male massage therapist.  As a woman, i was a little worried about the comfort level but i had nothing at all to worry about.  Mike is extremely professional.  His technique involves laying your body from side to side as well as front to back to best access all the muscles - in the best way possible.  Its great!  I'd recommend Mike to anyone who is looking to FIX issues they currently have or have had for a very long time.

I received a sports massage from Mike and he did a great job. My muscles felt much less sore and much more mobile afterwards.
